Matthew Liebowitz of Freehold was charged with vehicular homicide in the crash, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Mark Tinitigan of the South River Police Department.

On Oct. 15, at 9:30 p.m., South River police responded to the intersection of Darrow Street and Virginia Street for a crash. Police found the aftermath of an automobile crash involving a vehicle driven by Janina "Jane" Klich, 59, of South River, and another vehicle driven by Liebowitz, the prosecutor said.

Klich was unresponsive at the scene and had to be extracted from her vehicle. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

After further investigation by Officer John Kenney of South River Police Department and Detective Mark Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office it was determined that Liebowitz was speeding and entered the intersection of Darrow Street and Virginia Street without stopping at a stop sign, resulting in the crash with Klich’s vehicle, the prosecutor said.

A GoFuneMe page for Klich's funeral expenses was created here.

On the GoFundMe page, Brittany Lee wrote, "This beautiful woman, Janina (Jane) Klich, was taken from this world late last night, in a horrific accident."

She is the mother of three  Matthew, Ryan, and Alyssa, and a grandmother of two, Aj and Austin.

"Family was everything to her," Lee wrote. "This was such an unexpected loss. Our hearts will never be the same. For those of you who had the honor of knowing her, knew how wonderful, loving, and giving she truly was. She will be forever missed by friends, family, and anyone who got to see her beautiful soul."

On Thursday, Nov. 17, Liebowitz was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular homicide.

The investigation is active and continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Kenney of the South River Police Department at (732) 254- 9002 X109 or Detective Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3927.
